CANISIUS TAKES PART IN THE DUEL IN THE DOME
PRACTICE SWINGS
- Canisius travels down the New York
State Thruway this weekend to take part in the Dual in the Dome at Syracuse's
Carrier Dome.
- This weekend's games against Colgate
and Syracuse in the Carrier Dome will be the Canisius' first two games in the
state of New York this season.
- The Golden Griffins are 4-17 on the
year and travel to Syracuse, N.Y., looking to snap a nine-game losing streak.
- Canisius went 0-5 last weekend at the
USF Invite in Clearwater, Fla. The Griffs' last win was March 10, when the Blue
and Gold defeated Cleveland State by a score of 10-6 at the USF Under Armour
Showcase in Clearwater, Fla
- The Griffs' game against Syracuse marks
the second time in the last 10 days where the Blue and Gold has played the No.
24-raqnked team in the nation. The Orange started this week ranked No. 24 in
the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top-25 poll.
- The Griffs start this weekend hitting .241 as a team, with senior Lauryn Chris
leading the way with her .310 batting average.
- Of the 124 hits Canisius has recorded
this season, 17 of them have been for extra bases, with 13 of those coming as
doubles.
- Freshman Robin Kennery leads
Canisius with her 10 RBIs this year. She also leads the roster with four
doubles.
- Senior outfielder Lizzy Gatto has
a team-high nine stolen bases through 20 games played this season. She has
stolen 30-straight bases, dating back to May 13, 2010.
- Gatto also leads the Griffs with 11
walks this year and she enters this weekend's action ranked 186th in the nation
with 0.55 walks per games.
- Senior Caroline Main leads
this year's pitching staff with three wins in the circle. She is the team's
active career leader in wins as a pitcher with 26.
- Canisius head coach Mike Rappl
picked up career win number 775 March 10, when the Griffs defeated Cleveland
State in Clearwater, Fla. He is the winningest head coach in MAAC history.
