Canisius women's basketball
coach Terry Zeh has announced the
signing of Lauren D'Hont (Pittsford,
N.Y.) and Laniere Coleman (Lake
Mary, Fla.) to National Letters of Intent. The two student-athletes will
join the Golden Griffin women's basketball program starting with the 2013-14
season.
D'Hont has played for four seasons at Pittsford Mendon
High School. The 5-foot-11 guard earned All-Greater Rochester Second-Team
honors last season when she averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and
3.0 steals per game. D'Hont is a two-time First-Team All-Monroe County
selection and was named to the Section V All-Tournament Team last season.
D'Hont also has played three years of soccer and softball at Pittsford Mendon,
earning All-County honors in each sport.
"Lauren is a multi-sport athlete who has a tremendous
desire to be successful," Zeh said. "Coupling that desire with her basketball
skills and academic abilities, Lauren is a great fit for our program."
Coleman has played four years at Lake Mary High School.
The Rams won the Florida Class 6A state championship during her freshman season
and were the state runners-up after her sophomore season. Coleman earned All-Seminole
Athletic Conference Second-Team honors following her junior season when she
averaged 9.3 points and 8.8 rebounds to go along with 2.1 blocks per game.
"Laniere
brings good size and toughness to our interior," Zeh said. "She has a good mind
for the game and has shown the ability to defend in the post."
Canisius
returns to the court on Tuesday, when the Golden Griffins play at Binghamton. Game
time is set for 7 p.m.
