With the score tied at 19-19, SIU-Edwardsville scored two quick points, getting a kill and service ace, to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish and won the first set.

With the score tied at 14-14, Canisius scored three straight points to take a 17-14 lead. During the three straight points, the Griffs used a kill from Brawn, block from sophomore Jessica Warner and Good and a kill from Good to take the three-point lead. However, SIU-Edwardsville fought off two set points and eventually took a 25-24 lead to get a set point of its own. The Griffs then won three straight points, capped by a kill from Elek to tie the match at one set apiece.

SIU-Edwardsville came right back, winning the first three points of the third set en route to building a 17-6 lead, a lead the Canisius couldn't overcome as the Cougars took a 2-1 lead in the match. The Cougars pulled away midway through the fourth set, turning a 13-11 Canisius lead into a 19-14 advantage as SIU-Edwardsville went on an 8-1 run.
