The Canadian National Team, who is competing at the 2011
Under-19 Women's Lacrosse World Championship under the guidance of Canisius
head coach Scott Teeter, used a big
second-half run to earn a 13-8 victory over Japan on Tuesday.
With the win, Teeter has led Team Canada to a 3-2 mark in
round-robin play and the number three overall seed. Canada faces the Haudenosaunee
on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET.
After taking a 4-3 halftime lead into the intermission,
Canada quickly found itself trailing early in the second. Japan scored three
goals in the first three minutes of the stanza to grab a 6-4 advantage.
Canada would answer back, however, scoring nine-straight
goals to put the game out of reach and secure the 13-8 victory.
Casey Lyons led the Canadians with eight points, four goals
and four assists in the victory. Incoming Canisius freshman Tori Quinn added
one assist for Canada.
The Canadians and Haudenosaunee are meeting for the second
time during the championship. The teams opened the tournament against each
other with Canada earning a dominating 21-1 victory. The winner advances to
face the winner of Australia and Wales.
