The
Canisius College athletic department announced that nine of the College's
varsity programs boast a perfect score of 100 in the most recent Graduation
Success Rate (GSR) report, according to institutional research based on 2010
data released by the NCAA.
Of the
Golden Griffin teams that had perfect scores of 100, five of those programs
were women's teams (lacrosse, softball, swimming and diving, synchronized
swimming and volleyball), while men's cross country, golf, men's soccer and
men's swimming and diving also recorded perfect GSR numbers. In the previous
report issued by the NCAA, only women's lacrosse and synchronized swimming had
perfect scores of 100. From the 2002 cohort year to the 2003 cohort year,
Canisius athletics saw its overall GSR number improve from an 87 to a 94, with
11 programs improving their performance during that time span.
"This
latest reporting of GSR scores demonstrates the effort and commitment to academic
progress and student-athlete retention we have at Canisius College," Director
of Athletics Bill Maher said. "Our
student-athletes, coaches, faculty and academic staff should be commended for
the academic progress that continues to be made"
Canisius programs also
showed strong efforts in the newest set of multiyear Academic Progress Rate
(APR) scores, according to the seventh round of NCAA APR totals, which were
released on Tuesday. For 2009-10, 12 of Canisius' 16 varsity athletic teams
recorded scores higher than 965 to rank among what the NCAA considers to be
"high performing" teams. This marks the second-straight year that at least 12
teams scored above the "high performing" threshold after nine programs reached
that plateau for the 2007-08 reporting year.
