Canisius
College freshman Kayla Hoohuli was
named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday, receiving the award for
the second time this season.
Hoohuli
had 15 points and five rebounds in the Griffs' 81-64 win at Kent State on
Sunday. The freshman shot 50 percent from the floor, including 3-for-5 on
3-pointers. Hoohuli added a block and a steal as well. In the last four games,
Hoohuli has had five or more rebounds three times and is shooting 41
percent from behind the arc during that stretch.
Hoohuli
also earned the award on Dec. 5, and is the second women's basketball player,
along with Damika Martinez from Iona, in the conference to be win the MAAC
Rookie of the Week award twice this season. Hoohuli ranks third among MAAC
freshmen in scoring (7.1) and first in 3-point field goals made (12).
Canisius concludes its non-conference schedule
with two home games, both doubleheaders with the Golden Griffin men's
basketball team in the Koessler Athletic Center. Canisius hosts the University
at Albany on Thursday, with tipoff scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Mike Scott will have
the audio broadcast on the Golden Griffin Broadcast Network and the game will
be shown on tape delay on Time Warner SportsNet.
