SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Canisius
College sophomore Jamie Ruttle was
named to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference
Preseason Awards Show at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on
Tuesday. The Golden Griffin women's basketball team was voted sixth in the
preseason coaches' poll.
Ruttle,
the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, was the only sophomore named to the First or
Second Team. The Burlington, Ontario native ranked second on the team with a 8.9
points and 4.5 rebounds per game averages as a freshman. The 6-foot-3 forward was
second among MAAC freshmen in scoring and rebounding and first in free-throw percentage
(72.2). A two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, Ruttle scored eight or more points
in 16 of the final 21 games.
Canisius
received 55 points to finish sixth in the preseason coaches poll. Six-time
defending champion Marist was a unanimous selection, followed by Loyola (84), Fairfield
(78), Manhattan (64) and Iona (59). Rounding out the poll were Siena (46),
Saint Peter's and Rider (23) and Niagara (18).
Canisius begins the 2011-12 season on Monday,
Nov. 14, when the Golden Griffins host St. Bonaventure in the Koessler Athletic
Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
