Ruttle Named Second-Team All-MAAC

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Canisius College sophomore Jamie Ruttle was named to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Awards Show at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Tuesday. The Golden Griffin women's basketball team was voted sixth in the preseason coaches' poll.

Ruttle, the 2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, was the only sophomore named to the First or Second Team. The Burlington, Ontario native ranked second on the team with a 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game averages as a freshman. The 6-foot-3 forward was second among MAAC freshmen in scoring and rebounding and first in free-throw percentage (72.2). A two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week, Ruttle scored eight or more points in 16 of the final 21 games.

Canisius received 55 points to finish sixth in the preseason coaches poll. Six-time defending champion Marist was a unanimous selection, followed by Loyola (84), Fairfield (78), Manhattan (64) and Iona (59). Rounding out the poll were Siena (46), Saint Peter's and Rider (23) and Niagara (18).

Canisius begins the 2011-12 season on Monday, Nov. 14, when the Golden Griffins host St. Bonaventure in the Koessler Athletic Center. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
