After leading the Canisius College hockey team to a strong start in league play, junior Dan Morrison and freshman Kyle Gibbons were each honored by Atlantic Hockey on Monday. Morrison earned Goaltender of the Week accolades, while Gibbons was named the league's Rookie of the Week.

Morrison started all three games in goal for the Griffs, leading the team to a 2-0-1 mark. Morrison recorded at least 32 saves in all three games during the week, while posting a 1.95 goals against average and .942 save percentage. His best performance came on Friday at Sacred Heart, stopping 37-of-38 shots in a 4-1 Canisius victory. In the win, Morrison recorded 12 saves during a single five-minute Sacred Heart power play during the second and third periods, preserving a 1-1 score at the time.

Overall, Morrison has posted a goals against average of 2.34 and a save percentage of .942, while averaging 39 saves per game. He currently leads all Atlantic Hockey goalies in save percentage and ranks second in goals against average. The weekly accolade is the fourth during Morrison's career.

Gibbons also excelled during the week, leading the Canisius offense with five points on three goals and two assists. In just his third collegiate game, Gibbons helped the Griffs to a 5-2 win against Mercyhurst, scoring the first two goals of his career, including the game-winning tally, and adding an assist. He then followed with a goal and an assist against Sacred Heart on Friday.

The Westlake, Ohio native currently ranks first among Atlantic Hockey rookies with his five points this season, while ranking 11th nationally among freshmen with 1.00 point per game.

Morrison, Gibbons and the Griffs return to action on Friday, hosting Army in an Atlantic Hockey contest. Canisius' home opener is set to begin at 7:05 p.m.
