Senior Cory Conacher, the reigning Atlantic Hockey Player of the Year,
picked up in the 2010-11 season right where he left off last year. On Monday,
Conacher earned the conference's Player of the Week accolades after leading the
Canisius College hockey team to a season-opening victory against CCHA foe
Western Michigan.
During the two-game series, Conacher totaled five points,
three goals and two assists. In Friday's 5-3 victory, the senior netted the
11th hat trick in the program's history and the second of his career, while
also registering an assist. He added an assist in the series finale for the
five-point weekend.
Conacher's five-point weekend comes on the heels of a
53-point junior campaign. The Burlington, Ontario native set school records
with his 53 points and 33 assists, while ranking second nationally with 1.51
points per game.
For his career, Conacher has amassed 110 points, 42 goals
and 68 assists in 94 contests. He continues his climb up the Canisius record
book as he now ranks fourth in the program's Division I history in points,
fourth in assists and is tied for fifth in goals. In addition, his third goal
against Western Michigan on Friday was the game-winning score, the ninth of his
career. He is now tied for first in school history.
Conacher and the Griffs return to the ice on Tuesday, Oct.
19, playing an Atlantic Hockey contest at Mercyhurst. Game time is slated for
7:05 p.m.
