Canisius College men's basketball coach Tom Parrotta
announced today that Chris Manhertz (Bronx,
N.Y.) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Golden Griffins' roster
for the 2010-11 season.
Manhertz is currently a senior at Cardinal Spellman High
School in New York City. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward averaged 18 points, 13
rebounds and four blocks per game last season for the Pilots and head coach
Fred Opper. An all-league selection, Manhertz received an overall rating of 80 is
rated as the No. 152 power forward by Scouts, Inc. and ESPN.com's college
basketball recruiting tracker.
"In Chris, we are adding a solid individual from a great
family, and we feel he will fit in nicely with our solid nucleus of veterans,"
Parrotta said. "He fits the mold of what we look for out of the forward
position. Chris is a very tough competitor with good size and a great motor. He
can change ends of the floor very well, and we expect him to excel in the
system we have in place here at Canisius."
According to ESPN.com, Manhertz has the ability to be a
dominant player on the glass where he uses his leaping ability and length to
his advantage. The site also states that he has very good quickness and attacks
the rim with great vigor when he receives the ball in the low post.
Canisius returns to action Saturday, Nov. 21, when the
Griffs play at St. Francis (NY). Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
