Jones and Orangeville Northmen Win 2008 Minto Cup

Adam Jones continued him impressive summer of play. The Canisius lacrosse standout helped the Orangeville Northmen to the 2008 Minto Cup Championship on Saturday. The Minto Cup has been awarded each year since 1938 to the top junior team in Canada.

In four games, Jones recorded 17 points on six goals and 11 assists to help lead his team to the championship. His 4.25 points per game average tied for the top mark in the tournament. In the finals, the Owen Sound, Ontario native posted four points on a goal and three assists in a 9-5 victory over the Victoria Shamrocks. The championship was the first for Orangeville in 12 years.

The summer has been very productive for Jones. He also participated at the 2008 ILF U-19 World Championship, leading Team Canada to silver and picking up Tournament MVP and Best Midfielder honors.

Jones became the first Canisius player to earn All-America honors during his freshman season in 2008. A first-team All-MAAC selection, Jones posted a team-best 47 points and 38 goals while helping lead the Griffs to its first NCAA Tournament and a school-record 10 wins.
