Conacher Named Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week

Freshman Cory Conacher continued his impressive run with the Griffs and earned Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week honors for the second time in his short career. Conacher totaled four points during the weekend series against Sacred Heart, including a career-best three points in Canisius' 4-2 victory on Saturday.

Conacher helped the Griffs to a come-from-behind victory in the finale of the series with two goals and an assist. He knotted the game at one in the second period and after the Pioneers reclaimed the lead early in the third, Conacher once again tied the game with his first collegiate power-play score. The freshman then made a great play to help the Griffs seal the victory with an assist on the team's fourth goal. Conacher flipped the puck over and past the defense and teammate Jason Weeks skated to the puck and scored an empty-net goal.

The Burlington, Ontario-native helped lead the Griffs to their first win this season when trailing at any point in the third period. Conacher also tallied an assist in Friday's contest against the Pioneers.

Since his debut on Dec. 30, Conacher has had an immediate impact on the Griffs' success. In just 10 games, he has totaled 11 points on three goals and eight assists. His performance against Sacred Heart was already his fourth multiple-point effort in his young career.

Conacher also won the weekly accolade on Jan. 7 after leading the Griffs to three points in a weekend series against Bentley. He scored a goal and added an assist in Canisius' 4-1 victory over the Falcons.

Conacher and the Griffs continue Atlantic Hockey play with a home-and-home series against rival RIT. The two teams will meet in Rochester on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. before returning to the Buffalo State Sports Arena on Sunday for a 4:05 game.
