Westenfield Honored as a Verizon Academic All-American

Canisius College junior women's lacrosse player Erin Westenfield has been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-America All-District I At-Large Team, as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Westenfield was selected to the second team. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must hold a 3.2 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing and have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

Westenfield was second on the team in scoring in 2003 with six goals and four assists for 10 points. She will enter her senior season with 41 points, good enough to place her eighth all-time in the program's history in career points scored. A history major, Westenfield holds a 3.93 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

The junior will return next season as the team's top returning offensive threat. Canisius finished 0-12 in 2003, but will return eight starters and 18 letterwinners next season.
