Krista Beechy is in her third season with Canisius women’s basketball program and first as the defensive coordinator.

In her first season as the team’s defensive coordinator, Canisius outrebounded opponents by 3.0 which ranked second in the MAAC. Beechy helped Athina Lexa take home MAAC Sixth Player of the Year honors and Sisi Eleko land on the All-MAAC First Team as a unanimous selection. While on the sideline, Beechy guided the Blue and Gold to a 58-55 win over Manhattan to help them advance to the semifinal round of the MAAC Championship since the 2008-09 season.

In her second season with the Golden Griffins, Beechy helped Canisius improve its overall and conference win totals by three from the season before. Under her guidance, junior Dani Haskell earned All-MAAC Third Team honors while freshman Sisi Eleko earned six MAAC weekly awards and was tabbed to the All-MAAC Rookie Team.

During the 2021-22 season, Beechy helped guide Canisius to a MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship opening round win, becoming the first No. 11 seed to win a game in the tournament’s history. She also mentored sophomore Dani Haskell to All-MAAC Third Team recognition and freshman Athina Lexa to a unanimous All-MAAC Rookie Team selection.

Beechy arrived on Main Street in August 2021 after spending the previous five seasons as an assistant coach with the Furman University women’s basketball program.

During her time in Greenville, S.C., Beechy assisted in the development of Celena Taborn, a four-time All-Southern Conference selection, as well as Tierra Hodges, a two-time All-SoCon choice.

Prior to her time at Furman, Beechy served as the director of operations for the Kent State women’s basketball program from 2014-2016. In her time with the Golden Flashes, Beechy was tasked with coordinating community outreach initiatives, basketball camps and team video duties.

A native of Winesburg, Ohio, Beechy earned her undergraduate degree in business management from Grove City College in 2010 and then went on to earn her master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from Winthrop University in 2014.
