Nick Wilson has announced the addition of Kayla Schmidt to his staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.
“I’m thrilled to have Kayla join our coaching staff. She’s been an exceptional athlete and leader throughout her collegiate career, both at Canisius and Loyola, and she’s always had a tremendous passion for the sport. Her experience as a captain, along with her background in exercise science, coaching, and sports performance, gives her a great foundation to begin her coaching career. I’m excited to see her bring that experience and passion to our program, and I know she’ll be a great addition to our staff.”
A native of Williamsville, N.Y., Schmidt spent three seasons at Canisius before ending her collegiate career at Loyola.
During her time on Main Street, in her senior season, Schmidt took home first place in the Little Three Championship and collected silver medals in back-to-back seasons at the MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
A recent graduate, Schmidt earned a degree in health and wellness from Canisius in 2025 before earning a master’s degree in exercise science from Loyola in 2026.
