Caitlin Vasile joined the Canisius women’s lacrosse program as an assistant in January, 2018. The 2020-2021 academic year will be her fourth season with the Blue and Gold.
A native of Lancaster, N.Y., Vasile handles the team’s offensive players and schemes while also assisting in the program’s recruiting efforts.
In her first two seasons, Vasile has helped Canisius maintain its streak of 12 straight trips to the MAAC Championship, highlighted by the program’s eighth consecutive trip to the MAAC title game in 2018.
Individually, Vasile has been instrumental in the coaching of 2018 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Jourdan Roemer and Midfielder of the Year Jen Reininger. In addition, the Griffs’ have had six attackers/midfielders receive All-MAAC honors during Vasile's tenure.
Prior to Canisius, Vasile was the head coach at Edinboro University for two seasons. She guided the Scots to a school-record tying seven wins in her first campaign, as well as their first ever win over a national-ranked opponent after defeating 18th-ranked Seton Hill in a 15-13 triumph.
A pair of Fighting Scots earned All-PSAC honors under her tutelage, which marked the first time Edinboro had more than one honoree. Cydney Hrycko and Paige Skinner were both accorded second team All-PSAC honors, the first time an Edinboro player earned more than a spot on the third team.
Vasile previously worked at St. Bonaventure as an assistant coach during the 2015 season, and prior to that was head coach for the Malvern St. James School in Worcestershire, England. There she oversaw four different teams with varying age groups.
Vasile also was the director of the Lacrosse United summer camp in Lancaster in 2012 and 2013, as well as coach of the Lady Monsters travel team.
An accomplished student-athlete at George Mason, Vasile was a three-year starter and the team captain her junior and senior seasons. During her career, she scored 65 goals and added 19 assists for 84 points while appearing in 67 career matches, making 51 starts. A midfielder, Vasile finished as the Patriots’ third-leading scorer with 18 goals and five assists for 23 points as a senior in 2013. She also added 25 draw controls, 16 ground balls, and 11 caused turnovers during her final season in Fairfax.
Vasile earned her bachelor's degree in management from George Mason in 2013, with a minor in tourism. She is working towards her master’s degree in sport administration while on staff at Canisius.
