A former two-time team captain and four-year starter with the Canisius College men’s soccer team, Regan Steele is in his second season as an assistant coach with the program.
Steele rejoins the men’s soccer team at Canisius after spending the previous two years with the school’s women’s soccer program as an assistant coach. Among his responsibilities, Steele worked directly with the team’s goalkeepers and helped first-year starter, Kailee DeFranks, rank 15th nationally in saves per game during the 2015 season.
A native of Paraparaumu, New Zealand, Steele has also worked with the Western New York Flash since 2014.
In four years as a student-athlete at Canisius, Steele appeared in 69 games from 2009 to 2012 with 58 starting assignments. He saw time as both a forward and back during his collegiate career, totaling 20 points, six goals and eight assists as a Griff. Steele also served as a team captain during his junior and senior campaigns, helping Canisius to one of its most successful season in 2012 as the program received votes in the national poll for the first time in school history.
Steele graduated with his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the College in 2013, while earning his master’s in sport administration in 2016. As a student-athlete, Steele was twice named to the MAAC All-Academic Team.
