The Canisius College swimming and diving team opened its 2014 campaign with a sweep over Wheaton on Friday and Saturday.
Canisius opened the meet with a win in A figures from senior Jessica Mancini (76.84), and in B figures from sophomore Laura Schmidt (71.83) on Friday night.
The Griffs then picked up right where they left off on Saturday, kicking off day two with a win in the trio event. The trio of senior Svetlana Ponkratova, sophomores Laina Gray, and Schmidt took first with a score of 88.43.
Canisius’ second trio of Mancini, and seniors Deanna DeSimone and Morgan Lebrecht came in right behind with a score of 86.07.
The Griffs also took first in the duet with Gray and Mancini taking the top spot, posting a score of 85.73. Ponkratova earned the solo title in the meet, posting a meet-high score of any routine with a 90.73.
Finally, Canisius closed out its lone home meet of the season in the team routine with a score of 89.27.
The Griffs will return to action next weekend, when the team looks to defend their 16-straight ECAC Championships.
