The Canisius College women's swimming and diving team returned to action after nearly two weeks off, as the Golden Griffins dropped a 139-109 decision against MAAC opponent Siena at the Siena Swim Center on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore Marissa Oakey captured the Griffs' first top-place finish of the afternoon in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:28.78. Oakey also placed first in the 500-yard freestyle, securing a time of 5:09.76.
Also capturing first-place finishes was freshman Clare Battaglia. The freshman locked into first-place performances in both the 200-yard IM (2:12.46) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.60).
Junior Kelli Graber had a pair of strong second-place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle (25.12) and the 100-yard freestyle (55.21). Joining Graber with a pair of second-place spots was freshman Alex Doody in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.81) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.84).
On the diving board, freshman Audrey Mulhisen and Siena's Hailey Beers battled for the top spot. A two-time MAAC diver of the week honoree this season, Beers took the spot in the three-meter event with a score of 229.70 followed by Mulhisen, who tallied 214.90 points. Mulhisen bounced back in the one-meter event with a first-place finish of 217.60 with Beers trailing behind in second-place with a score of 210.30.
The women's team will be joined by the Golden Griffin men on Sunday, Dec. 2 when both teams return to the Koessler Athletic Center for a dual against Binghmaton at 12:30 p.m.
