Mary Achramovitch
1981-83 • Hall of Fame 1988


The Griffs 6-4 center led Canisius women's basketball to a 54-10 record in her two seasons at Canisius. During the Griffs 26-5 campaign in 1981-82, Achramovitch averaged 15.7 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor. A year later, she averaged 13.1 points and 10.2 boards while blocking a school record 119 shots as Canisius went 28-5.

She earned second team All-American status both seasons and was a first team all-Northeast selection in 1983. Achramovitch registered career highs of 24 points and 21 rebounds and at the time of her induction, still held the school's career records in blocked shots (217) and rebounding average (10.3).

 
Pat Aronson
1977-81 • Hall of Fame 1993


Aronson was a member of the Canisius women's basketball team from 1977-81. In her four years, she scored a total of 1,226 points and pulled down 543 rebounds. At the time of her induction, those figures placed her fourth on the career scoring list and seventh on the career rebounding list. She was the first women's basketball player at Canisius to score over 1,000 points.

Under her leadership, the Golden Griffins advanced to the Division II New York State championship game three times and finished second in 1979. As a four-year starter, she averaged 14.6 points per game.

She is the first women's basketball player to be inducted into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame.

 
Anne Brocker Pierson
1989-93 • Hall of Fame 2005


A four-year letterwinner for women's basketball, Pierson was a member of the first Division I 20-win season when the Golden Griffins went 21-7 during the 1989-90 season.

She pulled down 855 rebounds to rank fourth all-time at Canisius, and racked up a total of 1,358 points to capture seventh place all-time. During her junior season she scored 16.5 points per game, shot 49 percent from the field and pulled down 8.9 rebounds per contest.

Pierson and her 1989-90 teammates were the first Canisius squad to compete in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), and Pierson was the first Canisius player named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. In 1991-92 Pierson became only the second female player in the history of Canisius College to earn a place on the First Team All-MAAC squad.

She also earned academic honors, winning a place on the MAAC All-Academic Team in both 1991-92 and 1992-93, and on the CoSIDA GTE District I Academic All-American roster in 1991-92. In her senior year she received the Canisius College Presidential Student Athlete Award.

 
Gina Castelli
1982-86 • Hall of Fame 1997


An All-American backcourt performer for Canisius women's basketball, Castelli ranked third in career scoring (1524), assists (578) and steals (273) at the time of her induction. In her career, her 682 made-field goals set a school standard, as did the 218 assists she recorded in 1983-84.

In Castelli's four years, the Griffs recorded an 82-34 winning record. After her graduation she went on to coach at Siena College, has earned MAAC Coach of the Year honors, won multiple MAAC regular-season titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2001. 

 
Heather Fiore
1993-97 • Hall of Fame 2007


At the time of her graduation, Fiore was the only player in women’s basketball program history to start every game of her career. She made 108 consecutive starts while scoring 1,949 points and handing out 586 assists, and averaged 15.7 points as a freshman. Fiore was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Co-Rookie of the Year, as well as First Team All-Conference for three straight years and Co-Player of the Year as a senior. She was also named to the MAAC 25th anniversary team.

Fiore scored more than 30 points in a game five times and on two occasions she posted more than 40 points in a contest. Her top scoring effort brought in 46 points in a live television broadcast against Saint Peter’s, when she broke the Griffs’ career scoring mark and set the conference record for points in a game. Fiore ranks among the top five in 33 different statistical categories at Canisius.

 
Karen Freeman
1979-83 • Hall of Fame 1994


A point guard for the Golden Griffins between 1979-83, Freeman led the Canisius team to its best season ever. During her years, the Griffs compiled an overall record of 80-28, finishing 26-5 in the 1981-82 season and advancing to the National AIAW Regional Competition. In that same year, the Blue and Gold compiled a 22-game winning streak covering a period of 98 days and finished the season ranked 11th in the country. The following season, Canisius was stopped one game short of the Division II Final Four, having produced a record that was 10th best among Division II schools in the nation.

In addition to achieving a College ranking of third in all-time assists (535) and 14th in career scoring (874 points), Freeman established herself as a powerhouse in the classroom.  She was one of 10 students nationally to receive a William F.X. Linskey Scholarship from the National Athletic Trainers Association and was a District II Academic All-American selection as a senior. After her graduation, Freeman was the head coach of the Wake Forest University women's basketball team and was a court coach for the 1988 women's Olympic Basketball Trials.  

 
Shauna (Geronzin) Green
1998-2002 • Hall of Fame 2012


The women's basketball program's all-time leading scorer, Shauna (Geronzin) Green ranks sixth in MAAC history with her 2,012-career points. A four-time All-MAAC honoree, Green led the Golden Griffins in scoring and rebounding in all four years with the program, and she is the only player in Canisius women's basketball history to average better than 20 points per game in two different seasons. She still ranks second in career scoring average (18.8 points per game), second in career rebounds (910), which are the most for any player since the program moved to the Division I level, second in career free-throws made (446) and she ranks in the top-10 in program history with her 104 career 3-point field goals. A four-time All-MAAC selection and a three-time All-MAAC First-Team honoree, she was named the 1999 MAAC Rookie of the Year and she was also voted the 2002 Canisius Female Athlete of the Year. 
Kara Haun
1980-84 • Hall of Fame 1995


Starred for the Griffs women's basketball team between 1980-84. During her four years, Canisius held a 90-21 record (81.1 winning percentage) and reached the NCAA Division II quarterfinals in 1983. An honorable mention All-American as a sophomore, she was a third-team pick as a junior and a second-team selection as a senior.

At the time of her induction, the Irondequoit native was the Griffs all-time leading scorer (1,661 points) as well as all-time rebounder (1,075). After graduating with a degree in physical education, Haun-Rehbaum played one season of professional basketball with Atlanta in the Women's American Basketball Association.

She coached Canisius basketball from 1993-98 and was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Coach of the Year after guiding the Griffs to a 19-8 record in the 1994 season.

 
Deb Laux
1981-85 • Hall of Fame 1997


A four-year letterwinner with the women's basketball team and women's softball team, Laux averaged 13.8 points per game with the basketball team and was a career .361 hitter while playing three positions (1B/3B/OF) for the softball team. The Golden Griffins were 92-28 during her four years with the hoop team and 67-35 on the diamond. At the time of her induction, Laux ranked fourth all-time in scoring with 1430 points and was in the Top 10 in seven offensive categories in softball.
Sister Maria Pares
1981-86 • Hall of Fame 2002


Sister Maria Pares served as the women’s basketball coach for five seasons and compiled a 108-39 career record and a .735 winning percentage. She left as the school’s all-time leader in career wins and coached three All-Americans during her tenure.

In 1981-82, her team won 22 straight games en route to a 26-5 record and a fourth-place finish at the AIAW Regional. In 1982-83, the Griffs went 28-5, won 15 consecutive contests and advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals. She led Canisius to a second-place ECAC finish in 1983-84 and a 23-8 record.

 
Lori Potter
1982-86 • Hall of Fame 1999


On the hardwood, the Orchard Park, N.Y. product scored 539 points in 102 career games as the Griffs compiled an 82-34 mark. She was the team's co-captain in 1985-86 and had career highs of 20 points and twelve rebounds.

As a member of the Golden Griffin softball team, Potter posted a career batting average of .333 in 99 career contests and was team MVP in 1984. She currently ranks 4th in school history in stolen bases (33), 8th in fielding chances (468 at 2nd and 3rdth in runs (88) and assists (152). As a member of the tennis team in 1982 and 1984, Lori registered a 12-4 mark in singles play and 7-3 in doubles play. She was voted the team's MVP in 1982. Lori is a teacher, coach and trainer with the West Seneca Board of Education.
Cindy Ulreich
1985-89 • Hall of Fame 2004


For four years Cindy Ulreich was a major contributor to the success of Golden Griffin women’s basketball. Between the 1985 and 1988 seasons, she played in 102 games, of which she started in 99.  She twice led the team in field goal percentage and rebounds. She held top ten rankings on both ends of the court — ninth in scoring with 1,180 points; sixth in steals with 200; third in rebounds with 798; second in blocks with 193; first in field goal percentage with 53-percent.

During her freshman and sophomore years, she also played as the softball team’s starting first baseman. The 1986 team went 20-6-1 and became the first Canisius softball team to win a major post-season title.  As a sophomore, she hit .388 for a team that won 17 games and lost eight.
