Italy Blog Day Nine

Canisius College Women's Basketball Italian Tour - Day Nine

We departed from Montecatini around 8 a.m. and arrived in beautiful Rome around 12:15 p.m. We then ventured to the Spanish steps and were given two and a half hours of free time to walk around and see the streets of Roma. The stores in Rome were high-class designer stores such as Fendy, Versace, Dolce and Gabanna, Dior and Chanel. There was a lot of walking and sightseeing involved today but little shopping done. Rome is probably the busiest city we have visited on this tour, but has many amazing ancient buildings and beautiful monuments. After we split into our groups from our meeting spot at the Spanish steps, we headed to McDonald's. Erin had promised Britt that her rehab for her groins would be to run up and down the Spanish steps, and her reward would be a Big Mac at the most famous McDonald's in the world.

We met at the fountain at 3 p.m. where we greeted our tour guide Flavia, who spoke extremely good English. She took us to the Treves Fountain where we all were instructed on how the wishes worked. Throwing the coin with your right hand over your left shoulder, the first coin represented a return visit to Italy, a second coin was to represent a wish that one had, and the third coin was the coin of true love. We all took pictures and got some ice cream, and then began our long tour on foot down to see the Coliseum. Today seemed to be extremely stuffy because the humidity was very high. It was a long day, but a very special day because it was Anna Zeh's sixth birthday. We all sang on the bus ride to Rome this morning, and celebrated with a beautiful cake after dinner tonight. Anna and Gavin have been so good on the trip, they have not complained once and seem to be having an amazing time.

Sadly, Saturday will be our last full day in Italy. We start the morning off by heading to Vatican City (the fourth country we will have visited on this trip) and the Sistine Chapel and then we head to back to Rome to view the city and its historical architecture. Our game has been moved back to 8 p.m. for Saturday night because of the heat, and this team is supposed to be a really good and professional team.

Ciao!
