Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Remain Unbeaten with Road Win at Akron

Freshman Ella Forcucci recorded a game-best seven points with four goals and three assists to power Canisius to a 19-10 victory over Akron in non-conference women's lacrosse action Saturday night at the Stile Field House in Akron, Ohio.

With the win, the Golden Griffins improved to 4-0 on the season for the first time since the 2022 season, while the Zips' fell to 4-1 on the season.

Canisius wasted no time taking control of the contest, as the Griffs used a 7-1 run to build a cushion in the opening 15 minutes of play. Sophomore Lauren Matyka opened the scoring at the 14:03 mark off a feed from Meg Hiltz, as Canisius would lead from wire-to-wire. Forcucci completed her hat trick in the first quarter, including two unassisted tallies in the final six minutes to stretch the advantage.

The offensive surge continued in the second quarter, as the Griffs scored five more goals to build a 12-2 halftime lead. Senior Maggie Tifft scored twice in the period, while Maddie Fitzgerald and Hiltz each found the back of the net in the third quarter. Canisius capitalized on Akron's offensive mistakes throughout the half, forcing 10 turnovers in the game's first half.

Akron attempted a comeback in the third quarter, using a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 13-5 midway through the frame. Fitzgerald and Forcucci responded with back-to-back goals to halt Akron's momentum, and the Blue and Gold carried a 16-6 lead into the fourth.

The fourth quarter saw back and forth action as sophomore Leah Pfeiffer and freshman Laine Nissen added goals for Canisius. Freshman Natalie Chin capped the Griffs' scoring with her first marker of the season, as well. Akron closed the game's scoring with two goals in the final four minutes of play.
