Men’s Lacrosse Stumbles In Home Debut Versus Robert Morris

Three players tallied two goals each to pace Robert Morris in an 11-8 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's lacrosse action Friday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Calum Brennan, Luke Prezioso and Koerner Marechek highlighted a balanced attack for the Colonials (2-3) that saw a total of 11 different players register a point. Cristian Davis went 10-for-21 on faceoffs and scooped up seven ground balls while Nate Fetcher (three saves) and Brady Carver (five saves) combined for eight stops in goal for the Colonials.

Redshirt sophomore Jordan Meech tallied first two goals of his collegiate career for the Golden Griffins (0-3) while freshmen Dane Kinney (1g-1a) and Evan McDougall (2a) both pitched in two points apiece. Senior Micah Hanson won 11 draws at the "X" and finished with seven ground balls. Senior Alexis Simard tallied his third goal of the season and notched a career-best seven ground balls. Graduate goalie Tommy Kunz made eight saves between the pipes for Canisius.

Trailing 1-0, Robert Morris notched three unanswered goals to grab a two-goal lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Griffs battled back in the second quarter, using goals from sophomore Hunter Roy and senior Devin Collins to trim the Colonials advantage to 4-3 heading into the halftime break.

RMU opened the second-half scoring to regain its two-goal advantage, but a man-up goal from Meech and an even-strength marker from junior Lowen Martin knotted the score at 5-all with 10:38 to play in the third quarter.

The Colonials regained momentum moments later, registering three of the next four goals scored to hold an 8-6 edge with just under 11 minutes to play in regulation.

Meech's second man-up goal of the contest with 9:08 to play pulled the Griffs within one, but RMU took control from there, notching consecutive tallies to ignite a 3-1 stretch that closed out the contest and gave the Colonials the two-goal road victory.
