Swimming and Diving Swept by Le Moyne to Close Out Regular Season

The Canisius swimming and diving teams were swept by in-state rival Le Moyne in dual meet competition Saturday at the Rev. Vincent B. Ryan, S.J. Pool in Syracuse, N.Y.
 
The Dolphin women posted a 166-134 triumph over the Golden Griffins while the Le Moyne men defeated Canisius by a 204-92 margin.
 
For the Canisius women, the 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Daphne Mead, junior Cassandra Ercoli, junior Leyna Swanson and junior Evie Leighton started the meet on a strong note as they touched the wall first in 3:53.86.
 
Mead also earned individual victories in the 100 back (58.10), 200 back (2:06.78) and 200 IM (2:08.41). Senior Emily Blake captured first place in the 200 fly (2:15.44) and added a runner-up finish in the 100 free (55.95).
 
Canisius claimed the top two spots in the women's 1000 free as juniors Lauren Martin (11:07.83) and Andi Mackey (11:10.64) took first and second, respectively.
Freshman Luke Nagle led the way for the Canisius men with a victory in the 1000 free (10:12.10) while sophomore Elijah Nevins (1:45.44) and senior Sam Vidal (1:46.66) fashioned a 2-3 finish in the men's 200 free.
In the sprint freestyle events, freshman Hugh Hawkins recorded a second-place finish in the 100 free (48.06) and third-place result in the 50 (21.91) free.
Senior Toby Mayfield finished second in the men's 200 fly (1:56.07) and freshman Peyton Gilliland placed second in the 100 fly (52.38) with junior Elliot Somers claimed third (52.87).
Canisius dominated the men's 1000 free, with freshmen Luke Nagle (10:12.10), Brady Garcia (10:13.88), and Gavin Ray (10:20.72) taking the top three spots.

Both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action Feb. 11-14, at the 2026 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
