Men's Soccer Falls at Virginia Tech

Box Score Alex Perez recorded a goal and an assist to pace Virginia Tech in a 2-0 victory over Canisius in collegiate men's soccer action Sunday at Thompson Field in Blacksburg, Va.

Ugo Bertelli also found the back of the net for the Hokies (2-0-0), who remained undefeated on the young season. Sam Joseph got the start in goal for Virginia Tech and recorded two saves to post his second shutout of the season.

Graduate student Dom Dominguez and senior Preston Harold split time in goal for Canisius (1-1-0), combining for seven saves.

Perez opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he curled a free kick into the top right-hand corner of the net from 22 yards out to give Virginia Tech the lead.

The Hokies doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the 51st minute with Perez delivering a well-placed pass to Bertelli inside the box, where he slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the Canisius cage for his first goal of the season.

GAME NOTES
• Sunday's matchup served as the first matchup between Canisius and Virginia Tech.
• Virginia Tech was awarded 17 corner kicks during the contest, compared to just two for the Griffs.
• Virginia Tech held a 32-4 shot advantage in the contest, highlighted by a 14-0 advantage in the first half.
• Harold made a game-high four saves for Canisius.
