Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Stymied by Syracuse Thursday

Syracuse scored twice in a 45-second span early in the first half to take control of the contest as it posted a 4-0 victory over Canisius in collegiate women's soccer action Thursday at the SU Soccer Stadium in Syracuse, N.Y.

Maya McDermott and Kendyl Lauher accounted for the two first-half goals for the Orange (2-1-0) while Mia Klmmer and Julia Arbelaez pitched in tallies in the second half to determine the final margin. Shea Vanderbosch got the start between the pipes for Syracuse and made five saves to post her first shutout of the season.

McDermott opened the scoring at the 13:09 mark of the contest when she put home a loose ball after the Griffs were unable to clear away a cross.

Lauher doubled the Syracuse margin moments later, chipping a ball past Canisius freshman keeper Chloe Tseros from the middle of the box to give the Orange a 2-0 advantage.

Syracuse added to its cushion with a pair of tallies in the second half. Klammer made a 3-0 contest in the 66th minute when she headed home cross from Gabby Wisbeck on a restart.

Arbelaez closed out the scoring in the 75th minute, depositing a centering feed from Ashley Rauch into the Canisius goal for her first collegiate tally.

Tseros got the start in goal for the Golden Griffins (0-2-0). She posted two saves.
