Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Stags Surge Past Women's Lacrosse

Kelly Haggerty and Amanda Kozak tallied eight points each to power Fairfield to a 20-9 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Haggerty scored six goals and added two assists while Kozak dished out a game-best six helpers to go along with a pair of tallies to power a potent Stags (6-7, 4-1 MAAC) attack that established a season high for goals scored. Teammate Mary Henry finished with a hat trick and chipped in two assists. Defensively, Brynn Donnelly tallied 11 draw controls as the visiting side won 24 of the 33 contested during the matchup.

Sophomore Maddie Fitzgerald found the back of the net on four occasions for the Golden Griffins (5-8, 2-3 MAAC). Sophomore Olivia Licardi and senior Taylor McArthur caused a team high two turnovers.

HEAD COACH RUSSELL ALLEN POSTGAME COMMENTS

Fairfield trailed briefly in the contest, surrendering the opening marker to freshman Katie Adams before responding with four unanswered goals to build a 4-1 lead late in the first quarter.

Juniors Meg Hiltz and Maggie Tifft halted the Stags surge with consecutive goals to pull the Griffs within one, only to see Fairfield take control of the game moments later as an even-strength tally from Haley Burns at the 12:24 mark of the second ignited an 11-2 run that spanned more than 15 minutes and gave Fairfield a 15-5 cushion less than four minutes into the third quarter.

Canisius tallied two of the next three goals to slow down the Stags attack, but Fairfield took advantage of a four-goal spurt later in the second half to take its largest lead of the game, 20-7, with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

Sophomores Lauren Matyka and Ashlyn Dhandwar notched the final two goals of the game to determine the final margin
