Rowing Wins Spring Opener

The Canisius rowing team emerged victorious in its spring season debut on Sunday afternoon as they played host to Robert Morris and Mercyhurst at the Tonawanda Creek in Buffalo, N.Y.
 
The first race of the afternoon was the four shells where Canisius posted first and second-place finishes. The 1V4 boat finished at the 8:34.4 mark, followed by the 2V4 shell coming in at 8:57.4. The Robert Morris shell came in third place at 9:23.8.
 
The Griffs notched a first-place finish in the 2V race, with the 2V8 shell clocking a finish time of 7:18.4. Robert Morris trailed by more than a minute, turning in a 8:24.3 finish.
 
Canisius completed the sweep with the 1V8 squad recording a 7:02.5 finish. The Colonials and Lakers were separated by 2.4 seconds to wrap up the race.
 
RACE NOTES
• Today marked the first time since 2021 that Canisius has hosted a spring opening race.
• Due to the presence of ice on the Niagara River, Sunday's race was moved to the Amherst Veterans Canal Park on the Tonawanda Creek

Canisius returns to the water April 12-13 when it travels to Cherry Hill, N.J., to compete in the Knecht Cup at Cooper River Park.
