Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Drops a Pair at Marist

Marist pitcher Kylie Myers threw a five-inning no-hitter in the first game and senior outfielder Maddie Gore hit a walk-off grand slam in the sixth inning of game two to help lead the host Red Foxes to a doubleheader sweep of Canisius in MAAC softball action Tuesday afternoon at Army Softball Complex in West Point, N.Y.

Marist posted an 8-0 win in five innings in the first game of the day before answering with an 11-1 victory in the nightcap. The two wins improved Marist, which extended its winning streak to 17 straight, to 28-5 overall and 5-0 in MAAC play on the year, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 12-15 overall and 2-3 in league action with their third-straight loss.

GAME ONE RECAP
Myers, the 2024 MAAC Co-Pitcher of the Year, tossed her third career no-hitter as the Red Foxes scored the 8-0 win in five innings. Myers needed just 48 pitches and faced the minimum 15 batters for her first no-hit performance since 2022.

In the bottom of the first, Marist took a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo homer off the bat of 2025 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year Myah McDonald, her team-leading 16th home run of the season. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning, when Marist scored seven runs in the frame to force the mercy-rule ending. Freshman Sienna Kunze's three-run homer over the fence in left was the final blow to the Griffs, as six of Marist's seven runs in the final frame were unearned.

Sophomore Olivia Manchester took the loss in the circle to fall to 8-1 on the year. Manchester allowed eight runs, two of which were earned, on eight hits to go along with four strikeouts and a walk.

GAME TWO RECAP
Canisius started game two with a run in the top-half of the first thanks to an RBI-single off the bat of senior Rosie Gomez. Canisius sophomore Ella Johel got on base with a one-out single and then moved to second base with her 12th stolen base of the season. Johel came around to score on Gomez's single to center. For Gomez, it was her 17th RBI on the year.

Marist quickly took the lead with a pair of runs in the home-half of the first and then extended its lead to 5-1 with three more runs in the second. Leading 7-1 heading into the sixth, the Red Foxes posted their 11th mercy-rule win of the season thanks to the grand slam by Gore.

The Griffs ended game two with six hits, led by Gomez, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Johel finished the second game by going 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

GAME NOTES
• Canisius leads the all-time series with Marist by a 39-30 count.
• Tuesday's games were played at the Army Softball Complex at West Point because Marist's Gartland Park is currently undergoing a construction project.
• Gomez is now one of four Griffs to boast 17-or more runs batted in this year.
