Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Reed’s Fourth Quarter Hat Trick Propels Men’s Lacrosse Past Quinnipiac

Sophomore Jordan Reed scored the final three goals of the game to erase a two-goal deficit and lift Canisius to a 10-9 victory over Quinnipiac in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday at the Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.

Reed found the back of the net three times in a 1:53 span late in the fourth quarter to keep the Golden Griffins (3-7, 3-0 MAAC) undefeated in league play. The reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week also pitched in pair of assists to cap off a five-point afternoon.

Senior Jaxon Fridge notched two goals and dished out a personal-best five assists for a career-high seven points while senior TJ Buono chipped in a pair of tallies. Junior face-off specialist Micah Hanson went 13-of-20 at the "X" with a game-best nine ground balls.

Justin Robbert and Trevor Douglas posted hat tricks for the Bobcats (2-6, 2-1 MAAC). Cole Marsala posted four assists while Mason Oak made 11 saves between the pipes for the home team.

Trailing 9-7 with less than five minutes to play in regulation, Reed struck twice on a pair of feeds from Fridge to tie the game before recording an unassisted effort to put the Griffs in front with just over two minutes to play in regulation.

The Bobcats had an attempt to tie the game in the final seconds of regulation, but a shot by Douglas hit the post, allowing the Griffs to hold on for the one-goal victory.

Tied at 5-5 at the start of the second half, Quinnipiac back-to-back tallies from Aiden Whitehouse and Robbert to grab a 7-5 edge early in the fourth.

The teams proceeded to exchange single tallies over the next six minutes of play, setting the stage for Reed's late-game heroics.

HEAD COACH MARK MIYASHITA'S POSTGAME COMMENTS
"It was another tight conference game, just like we expected. The guys did a great job of bearing down and not getting overwhelmed by the moment when we were down a couple of goals in the fourth quarter. They stuck together, trusted one another, kept to the game plan and we were fortunate to come out with a victory.

"We love seeing his (Jordan Reed's) continued growth and confidence in his game here in his sophomore year. In that fourth quarter, the connection between him and Jaxon Fridge, being summer box lacrosse teammates really helped as well. Jaxon had a great game with a couple of goals and four assists. So hats off to the Coquitlam connection there today.

"We had some of the best communication from the guys on defense from start to finish in the game today. They've really done a good job of having each other's back. You know you're going to give up goals, but they haven't allowed themselves to crack under pressure. We're excited to continue to see their growth as we've gone through the season. Tommy (Kunz) also had a huge bounce-back game in the pipes as well.

"We continue to believe in our ability as a group to do great things. We know that the non-confidence portion of our schedule came up short in terms of getting some wins. But at the end of the day, conference play is where we make hay. The fact that we've been able to come into MAAC play and get three wins in three tough games is going to continue to help that good vibe in the locker room and hopefully fuel us here going forward through what is a tough stretch as were back on the road Wednesday before returning home next Saturday."
