Freshman Tabitha von Kolen reached base safely in all four at-bats as Canisius defeated Loyola Chicago, 4-2, in extra innings during the final day of the Pirate Invitational Sunday, hosted by East Carolina.
The Golden Griffins improved to 3-7 on the season with the extra-innings victory, while Loyola Chicago fell to 2-10 on the year.
Canisius recorded four hits throughout the first seven innings of the contest, while holding Loyola Chicago to only two. von Kolen, senior Alyssa Cloutier, sophomore Ella Johel and senior Emily Ilano contributed the hits for the Griffs.
In extra innings, Canisius scored four runs in the top half of the eighth, starting with a fielder's choice from Johel that brought home Morgan Cook, followed by freshman Cara Edwards drawing a bases loaded walk to plate Cloutier. Junior Bailey Alatorre capped off the frame by hitting a two-run double down the left field line to plate Johel and freshman Bella Martin.
The Ramblers attempted to mount a comeback in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs on RBI base knocks from Skyler Croker and Sierra Sass, before bringing the go-ahead run to the plate later in the frame. The Griffs were able to work out of the jam, forcing a ground out to end the game and secure the victory.Â
Sophomore Olivia Manchester got the start in the circle for Canisius, throwing her third complete game of the season. Manchester struck out six as while allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits.Â

• Sunday's contest served as the first meeting between the Golden Griffins and Ramblers.
• Manchester struck out a career-high six batters in a career-high eight innings pitched.
• Johel has reached base safely in eight of the team's first 10 games.
• Alatorre recorded the first multi-RBI game of her career with her performance on Sunday.
• Cloutier tallied her third multi-hit game of the season and eighth of her career.
• Cloutier stole a career-high three bases in the victory.
