The Canisius softball program stays in the Carolinas taking part in the Pirate Invitational hosted by East Carolina in Greenville, N.C. The Golden Griffins will face host East Carolina, Boston College and Loyola Chicago Feb. 21-23.
• Series History
The Griffs are currently at 4-6 against East Carolina. The Griffs last played the Pirates in the Pirate Invitational in 2018, where Canisius won 4-3 in eight innings.
Canisius and Boston College have faced off twice before, and the series is currently tied 1-1. Both matchups took place all the way back in 1991, which saw the Eagles take the first game 6-1 while the Golden Griffins took game two 4-0.
This will be the first time that Canisius has faced off against Loyola Chicago in program history.
• Outfielders Lead the Way
Sophomore Ella Johel and senior Alyssa Cloutier both have gotten off to a hot start in the Griffs first seven games of the season. Johel leads the team in batting average with a .512 which currently sits sixth in the conference on 11 hits, while tacking on four stolen bases. Cloutier sits right behind Johel with a .412 average on seven hits. She also leads the team with five stolen bases on five attempts which is tied for the lead in the MAAC.
• Manchester Dealing
Sophomore pitcher Olivia Manchester has been leading the way for the Griffs pitching staff. She is currently 2-0 in her two starts on the season sitting at a 2.10 ERA which is eighth in the conference. The Folsom, Calif. native has also struck out 11 batters on the season to sit tied for fifth in the conference.
• Headed to Pennsylvania
Following the five-game tournament at East Carolina, Canisius will have a week off before heading to the Penn State Invitational March 7-9.
