Griff Weekend on Tap for Sept. 27-29

Canisius University's inaugural Griff Weekend will be held on campus Sept. 27-29. Griff Weekend will combine two favorite events – Family Weekend and Alumni Weekend/Reunion – into one amazing, fun-filled experience.

On Friday night, the Canisius athletic department and the University's office of alumni engagement will host the formal induction ceremony for the 59th class into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame. In June, Canisius announced that Amanda (Cavo) Bevilacqua '09 – women's basketball, Caren Jachimiak '80 – women's basketball and volleyball, Sean Jamieson '11 – baseball, Samantha Good '13, MS '16 – volleyball, Josh Heidinger '10 – hockey, Megan Oosting '12, MS '14  – women's lacrosse, Kelly Reinwald '12 – women's soccer and the 1993-96 men's basketball teams were voted into the Canisius University Sports Hall of Fame. Additionally, Canisius graduate and long-time athletic department supporter John A. Christiano '57 was named this year's recipient of the Rev. Paul J. Dugan, S.J., '45 Award, an honor recognizing individuals for their significant contributions to Canisius athletics.

At the conclusion of the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the Canisius Blue and Gold Fund invites friends, family and alumni to join in celebrating the newest class into the University's Sports Hall of Fame at a post-event reception at the Koessler Athletic Center, starting at 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. The reception will be held in the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame area in the Koessler Athletic Center lobby, and guests will have the chance to meet with current and former staff in town to celebrate this important event.

There is no charge for this reception, but anyone interested in attending is asked to RSVP by using THIS LINK.

Griff Weekend will continue on Saturday, as both the Canisius volleyball and women's soccer teams play host to MAAC rivals. The volleyball team open league play Siena at noon at the Koessler Athletic Center, and the women's soccer team, winners of five straight for the first time since 2010, are set to play host to Rider at 1 p.m., at the Demske Sports Complex. Admission is free, and fans are encouraged to arrive early to take part in a C-Block-sponsored "tailgate party", which will be held in the upper parking lot of the Koessler Athletic Center. The Canisius athletic department will also be hosting an apparel sale at the tailgate event.

Griff Weekend concludes in the Koessler Athletic Center on Sunday at noon when the volleyball team closes out its weekend homestand with a MAAC match-up against Marist. That contest is also scheduled to start at noon.
