Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Blanks St Bonaventure

Junior Lizzy Harkness scored the eventual game-winning goal in the third minute to propel Canisius to a 2-0 victory over St. Bonaventure in collegiate women's soccer action Wednesday at the Marra Athletics Field Complex in Olean, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins improved to 3-1-1 on the young season as they picked up their second straight win. The Bonnies, meanwhile, dropped to 1-6-1.

Canisius jumped out to an early lead, scoring just 2:07 into the game when Harkness buried a shot over Bonnies goaltender Chiara Gottinger off of a corner kick from senior Erin Weir.

Senior Madeline Weltin had a great chance off a corner from Jessica Whitaker in the 25th minute that beat Gottinger but found the crossbar.

Junior Skylar Cornell had a point-blank chance to add to the Griffs lead in the 51st minute, but Gottinger was able to deflect it aside to keep it a one-goal contest.

Senior Emma Oliphant added an insurance marker in the 70th minute when she finished off a pass from Weltin that beat Gottinger on the right side to extend the Griffs lead to two.

Senior Jordan Spencer got the start in net once again for Canisius and stopped both shots she faced on way to her 11th career shutout.
