McGee-Ross Tabbed Canisius Female Athlete of the Year

Softball senior Christie McGee-Ross has been chosen as the 2023-24 Canisius Female Athlete of the Year, the athletic department announced on Friday.
 
McGee-Ross was selected after a fan vote on GoGriffs.com. The other nominees were Sisi Eleko (women's basketball), Jill Galanti (women's lacrosse), Hannah Kenefick (rowing), Olivia Moran (cross country/track) and Emma Oliphant (women's soccer).
 
A native of Cheektowaga, N.Y., McGee-Ross garnered National Fast Pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Great Lakes Region Second Team and All-MAAC First Team accolades after she led the Golden Griffins with a .395 average, 41 runs scored, 51 hits and three triples.
 
Starting all 41 games she played in during her final collegiate season, McGee-Ross hit a career-high 10 home runs and finished the season with a personal-best 30 RBI. She also recorded in six doubles, 29 total walks and eight stolen bases. 
 
In the postseason, McGee-Ross recorded six hits, five runs scored and two RBI as she helped lead the Golden Griffins to their fourth straight appearance in the MAAC Softball Championship Game. For her efforts, she was named to the 2024 MAAC Softball All-Championship Team, the third straight season she was named to the championship squad.

The finalists and voting for the Canisius Male Athlete of the Year will be announced on Monday, July 15.
