Kerri Brace Steps Down as Head Rowing Coach

Kerri Brace, Canisius' head rowing coach for the past seven seasons, announced today (July 11) that she is stepping down from her position at the University to accept an administrative role within the athletic department at D'Youville University. Brace's last day at Canisius will be July 19.

"I would like to thank Kerri for her seven years here at Canisius," Canisius Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Maher said. "During her time leading our rowing program, she worked tirelessly to provide our student-athletes the best experience possible. It has been a professional goal of Kerri's to move into athletic administration, and we wish her nothing but the best in the next step of her career."

In her time leading the Canisius rowing program, Brace developed 13 All-MAAC performers, including four All-MAAC First Team selections, to go along with six Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-Conference honorees. In 2022 and 2023, the Golden Griffins swept the Black Rock Cup, the program's annual home regatta, held at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fontana Boathouse.

"I would like to thank Bill Maher, Lisa Liotta and the entire Canisius athletic department for allowing me to lead the rowing team for the last seven years," Brace said. "I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all the student-athletes and their families for allowing me to be a part of their journey at Canisius. Every single young woman who has come through the program in my time here on Main Street has made a lasting impact on my life, and I am extremely grateful for all their hard work, dedication and time. Canisius rowing will forever hold a very special place in my heart."

Assistant coach Matt Cosmann will oversee the program's day-to-day responsibilities on an interim basis until a new head coach is announced. Canisius will begin a national search for its next rowing head coach immediately.
