Kim Griffin Presented with 2024 Lorch Award

Head softball coach Kim Griffin was recently presented with the 2024 Dr. I. Joan Lorch Canisius University Colleague Award. The Lorch Awards, which are presented annually by the University's Women and Gender Studies program, honor individuals who have made a significant contribution to women, and who exemplifies the pursuit of liberation and justice regarding sex, gender and sexuality.

Griffin is the first Canisius athletic department staff member to win a Lorch Award since the program started in 1992. She was recognized for her contributions to the Canisius community and the campus' surrounding neighborhood, and she was also honored for her strong advocacy as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in Western New York.

Now in her 10th season as the head coach of the Canisius softball team, Griffin has collected 195 career wins leading the Golden Griffins. She has led the program to a pair of MAAC regular season titles, and in 2022, she guided the Blue and Gold to the NCAA Division I Softball Championship tournament after the Griffs won the MAAC Softball title game at the Demske Sports Complex. She has also been honored as the MAAC Coach of the Year two on two different occasions, most recently, after the 2023 campaign.

The Griffs (7-10, 2-0 MAAC) will return to the field this weekend for a three-game conference series at Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J.
