Men’s Soccer Claims a Point with Draw at Siena

A goal early in the second half from junior Josh Miller allowed Canisius to play league-leading Siena to a 1-1 draw Wednesday in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action at Hickey Field in Loudonville, N.Y.

The Golden Griffins added one point to their MAAC standing with the tie, moving to 0-3-2 in conference play with a 2-8-3 overall record. The Saints, meanwhile, maintained their lead in the MAAC with a 5-3-5 overall record and 3-0-2 MAAC ledger.

Sophomore Mason Petrucci recorded the only shot on target for either team in the first half as the Griffs totaled two shots in the opening frame. The Saints put up four shots in the first half but none came close to Griffs senior keeper Jack Petrie.

Miller opened the scoring with his first of the season in the 50th minute. He was assisted by junior Michael Switala, who quickly flicked the ball to the far post and the awaiting Miller.

Siena put up ten shots in the second half as it pushed for the equalizer, four of which were saved by Petrie.

Cole Hellert finally tied the game for the Saints on a header in the 70th minute. Neither team was able to register the go-ahead goal in the final 20 minutes of regulation, sending both teams home with a point.
