Former Griff to be Inducted into New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame

Former Canisius softball player Michele (Fridey) Switzer '10 will be one of 14 new inductees into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame, the group's voting committee announced Sunday. With this honor, she becomes the eighth former Golden Griffin to be enshrined into the New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame.
 
(Fridey) Switzer, a 2006 graduate of Williamsville South High School, made a name for herself on the scholastic softball diamonds in Western New York before she went on to play her college ball at Liberty (2007 season) and then at Canisius (2008-10). She won five varsity letters at Williamsville South, where she played for Hall of Fame coach Gerry Gentner, and was a part of two state championship teams, helping the Billies win the state crown in both 2004 and 2006. In 2006, she set a New York state high school record with 64 hits, and she closed out her scholastic career as just the second player in state history to record 200-plus hits. In all, (Fridey) Switzer broke 10 Williamsville South offensive records during her career.
 
As a Griff, (Fridey) Switzer started 157 consecutive games from 2008-10. A two-time All-MAAC honoree, highlighted by a First-Team All-MAAC selection in 2010, she closed out her time on Main Street with a career .335 batting average, which ranks among the top-25 in program history. Her 34 career doubles are tied for sixth-most in school history, and her 12 career homers ranks her tied for 14th in the school's all-time record book. In 2010, she drove in a school-record 52 RBI, and her 113 career runs batted in ranks third in school history. Defensively, (Fridey) Switzer posted a career .990 fielding percentage behind the plate as the Griffs' primary catcher for three seasons, and her 598 career putouts rank 11th in school history.
 
The New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame was established in 2012 by the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports (NYSSCOGS). The purpose being to recognize the very best former players, coaches and contributors that have impacted the game of high school softball in New York State. The New York State High School Softball Hall of Fame recognizes individuals from the member high schools within the NYSPHSAA, CHSAA, PSAL and NYSAIS.
