Marist Defeats Softball in MAAC Championship Game

Marist's Kiley Myers yielded just two runs across seven innings as the Red Foxes won their fourth MAAC Championship, defeating Canisius, 6-2, Saturday morning in collegiate softball action at the Demske Sports Complex.

Marist improved to 29-28 on the season and received the automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Softball Championships that begin next week.

Canisius sees its season come to an end after earning its second loss of the conference tournament. The Griffs finished the campaign with an overall record of 30-16-1.

The Red Foxes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second after Isabella Manory doubled home Shea Walsh.

Marist added to its lead in the third with an RBI double from Sam Freeland and an RBI knock from Haley Ahr.

Canisius got on the scoreboard in the home half of the frame thanks to a single from graduate Nicole Rivait before cutting Marist's lead to one when junior Christie McGee-Ross launched a solo shot to dead center in the fifth.

The Red Foxes tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh for the 6-2 advantage. Myers would set down the Griffs in order in the home half of the frame to secure the conference title for Marist.
