Strong Second Half Sends Men’s Lacrosse Past St. Bonaventure

Canisius outscored St. Bonaventure, 9-2, in the second half to break open a close contest and cruise to a 13-5 victory in collegiate men's lacrosse action Tuesday at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y.

Junior Hunter Parucki recorded a career-high five points on two goals and three assists to pace a balanced Golden Griffins (1-6) attack that saw five players finish with two goals apiece. Junior Keegan Kozack tallied three points on two goals and an assist while senior Kyle Brunsch, junior Jackson Webster and redshirt sophomore Colin Kelly also tallied two goals each in the win.

Sophomore Tommy Kunz posted 14 saves between the pipes for Canisius while freshman Micah Hanson went 15-of-21 at the face-off X with 11 ground balls.

Five players scored one goal each while Cristofero Cucciuffo recorded 13 stops for the visiting Bonnies (1-6).

Parucki staked Canisius to a 1-0 lead at the 5:27 mark of the first quarter before SBU answered back with goals from Kyle Pepper and Kaden Brennan to take a 2-1 lead early in the second quarter.

A pair of man-up tallies from Brunsch and Webster less than three minutes apart put the Griffs back in front midway through the second frame, but Jake Emmick answered back for the Bonnies a little more than a minute later to knot the score at 3-3.

The teams would remain tied until the end of the second quarter, when Parucki collected a ground ball and beat Cucciuffo as the clock expired to give Canisius a 4-3 lead at the break.
Canisius carried the momentum from the Parucki buzzer-beater into the second half, notching the first three goals of the frame to build a 7-3 cushion.

Austin Blumbergs temporarily halted the Griffs momentum with an unassisted effort at the 5:15 mark of the third, but Canisius got back on track just 15 seconds later as freshman Alexis Simard notched his first collegiate tally, sparking a five-goal outburst that lasted into the early stages of the fourth and gave the Griffs a 12-4 advantage.

The teams would trade single tallies over the remaining 13 minutes of the contest. Cole Tucker registered a man-up tally for the Bonnies while Kozack countered with an even-strength marker for the Griffs to determine the eight-goal final margin.
