Giese Leads Softball to Win Over Houston Christian Sunday

Junior Megan Giese allowed one earned run in five innings in the circle and also hit a home run while driving in three at the plate to pace Canisius to a 7-4 win over Houston Christian Sunday morning in collegiate softball action on the last day of the Beach Chicken Brawl in Conway, S.C.

With the win, the Golden Griffins (9-8) earn the program's 999th victory, while Houston Christian slips to 9-14 on the campaign.

Giese helped herself in the opening frame, sending the 11th pitch she saw from Huskies' starter Addy Prasifka to right field for the sacrifice fly to score sophomore Saige Alfaro.

The Griffs added to their lead in the second when graduate Nicole Rivait earned her first of three hits in the game, a single through the right side before junior Destiny Falquez worked a walk.

Moments later, senior Sophia Recrosio singled home Rivait before Falquez scored on a fielding error.

Rivait gave Canisius a 4-0 advantage in the third, dishing a one out single up the middle to plate pinch runner Alyssa Cloutier.

Giese finished off her strong weekend at the plate by hitting her second home run of the tournament in the fifth - a two run shot over the left field wall.

Two batters later, Rivait left the yard herself, hitting her first home run in a Canisius uniform to put the Blue and Gold up seven.

The Huskies looked to make it a ballgame in the home half of the frame, putting up a four-spot on Giese.

With a pair of runners on, Avery Drake plated a run on an infield single to put Houston Christian on the scoreboard.

Drake, along with AB Garcia both scored on the same wild pitch later in the inning, cutting Canisius' lead to three.

Graduate Alexis Churchill entered the game in the sixth for the Griffs, facing one above the minimum for her fourth save of the season.
