Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Midweek Matchup at Michigan

No. 17 Michigan out-scored Canisius, 12-2, in the second half on its way to a 23-10 victory in collegiate men's lacrosse action Tuesday at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Josh Zawada scored seven goals and added three assists pace the high-scoring Wolverines (4-0) attack. Michael Boehm notched four goals and dished out four assists while Ryan Cohen and Aidan Mulholland both finished with hat tricks. Shane Carr made 13 saves between the pipes.

Redshirt freshman Colin Kelly tallied four goals to pace the Golden Griffins (1-2). Senior Jacob Buck and sophomore Hunter Parucki finished with two goals each while junior Nathan Conry tallied a goal and an assist.

Holding an 11-8 lead at the break, Michigan scored seven of the first eight goals in the second half to build an 18-9 cushion with just under three minutes play in the third quarter. Zawada powered the run, notching five of the seven Wolverine goals scored during the game-changing stretch.

The Wolverines kept up the pressure in the fourth, recording all four goals registered in the frame to complete the victory.

In the first half, Canisius held a 2-1 lead before the Wolverines scored four of the next five goals to grab a 5-3 advantage early in the second quarter.

Michigan enjoyed a three-goal edge midway through the second frame when Kelly and Parucki gave the Griffs some life with a pair of tallies to make it a 7-6 contest. Michigan once again had an answer, however, rattling off three straight goals in a roughly three-minute span to take its largest lead of the half, 10-6.

The teams traded goals to close the first half, giving the Wolverines an 11-8 advantage at the break and setting the stage for their second-half surge.

Head Coach Mark Miyashita's Postgame Comments
"Our guys battled and competed throughout the game and didn't quit. Unfortunately, we weren't able to execute in key moments and had mistakes that Michigan was able to make us pay for by putting the ball in the back of our net. Unfortunately, they strung too many of those together and we were unable to overcome that. Going into halftime, we were in a great spot down three, even with a few errors that cost us. We felt good and unfortunately, we came out and didn't have enough in terms of execution in the second half.
"Mental lapses even in the first half led to multiple goals that they scored. Obviously, it's very hard to keep teams from scoring in our game, but these errors that we're making are flat out unacceptable. We've got to clean them up if we want to be able to compete with the likes of the teams that are on our schedule.

"We'll review the things that we're both positive and what we need to learn from coming out of today's game and hopefully apply those to our practices as we look to improve ourselves over the next couple of days as we get ready for two games in Colorado this weekend. We'll obviously focus on Air Force first and worry about Denver afterwards, but right now, it's about recalibrating and getting ready to compete against very good Air Force team on Saturday."
