Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Topped by Quinnipiac in Road Finale

Quinnipiac used an 8-1 run midway through the contest to pull away from Canisius and record a 16-12 victory in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday at the Quinnipiac Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden, Conn.

Will Abbott tallied two goals and added four assists for a game-high six points while Dylan Donnery tallied five goals and Jake Tellers pitched in four goals and an assist for the Bobcats (4-2, 4-1 MAAC). Dylan George was 22-of-31 at the faceoff X while keeper Nick DiMuccio recorded 15 stops.

Junior attackman Jacob Buck scored a season-high five goals and graduate midfielder Dan Kritkausky posted his first career hat trick for the Golden Griffins (3-4, 2-3 MAAC). Sophomore midfielder Jackson Naylor finished with two goals and an assist while reigning MAAC Co-Rookie-of-the-Week Keegan Kozack pitched in a pair of tallies. Senior keeper Matt Vavonese recorded 11 saves between the pipes for Canisius.

Tied at 3-3 at the start of the second quarter, Quinnipiac used back-to-back goals from Dylan Donnery and Abbott to open the scoring in the frame and take a 5-3 lead.

Kritkausky temporarily halted the Bobcats momentum with an unassisted effort to make it a one-goal game, but Quinnipiac responded with four goals in a 1:20 span, highlighted by a pair of man-up tallies from Tellers, to build a 9-4 cushion. Kritkausky added his second of the quarter with less than two minutes to play in the half to make it a four-goal contest at the break.

The Bobcats carried their momentum into the start of the second half, erupting for four goals in the opening 3:25 of the third quarter to stretch their advantage to 13-5. Back-to-back tallies from Naylor and Buck trimmed the Griffs' deficit to six, but Ryan Donnery capped the third-quarter scoring with an assist from Abbott to make it a 14-7 contest after three.

The teams traded goals to begin the fourth quarter before Kozack's second of the contest sparked a three-goal spurt that pulled Canisius within four, 15-11, with 7:36 remaining.

Tellers restored the Bobcats' five-goal margin with his fourth of the day less than a minute later, while Buck's fifth of the contest with 4:35 to play proved to be the final goal of the game as Quinnipiac secured the victory to move into a tie for first place in the league standings with Monmouth.

Head Coach Mark Miyashita's Postgame Comments
"We give up big runs to them at the end of the second quarter and at the start of the third. That proved to be the gap that we could not close down the stretch. The big difference today compared to the games that we have lost earlier this year is that we did battle and compete to come back, but unfortunately those two lapses cost us in the end.

"At the end of the first we did not hold for the last shot as we had instructed our guys to do. They ended up getting one there right at the end before time expired, which kind of gave Quinnipiac a boost. Then it was four penalties against us in the second quarter which they were able to get three quick ones on us, and then they just kind of jumped on us out of the gate in the second half, So, we've got to stop shooting ourselves in the foot, proverbially, and be able to adjust the refereeing and be able to make a play somewhere on the field when we need it and not set ourselves back.
