Canisius Athletics Announces Men’s Soccer Leadership Change

Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher announced today that head men's soccer coach Dermot McGrane will not have his contract renewed beyond the 2021 season.

"This decision comes after careful thought and consideration of what I believe is in the best interest of our athletic program and Canisius College," Maher said. "I want to thank Dermot for his contributions to our men's soccer program, our athletic department and the College."

McGrane spent 11 seasons on the Canisius bench after being named the 14th head coach in program history on Jan. 21, 2011. Prior to taking over the Golden Griffin program, he spent nine seasons as the head coach at Niagara University. The Leicester, England, native got his start in college coaching at Western Kentucky in 1995, and he also spent five years on staff at Coastal Carolina.

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
