Senior Salute - Softball

The COVID-19 pandemic brought an abrupt end to the winter and spring sports for the 2019-20 academic year. Today (April 25) would have marked the final home series of the regular season for the softball program, a day where the Golden Griffins would have honored their 2020 Senior Class.

As a result, GoGriffs.com and each spring sports team's social media channels will be posting a "Senior Salute" for each senior throughout the coming weeks.

#4 – CHELSEA CZAPKOWSKI • Catcher • Toms River N.J.
A four-year letterwinner who has played in 81 career games, Czapkowski made 66 starts behind the plate in her time as a Griff. The Toms River, N.J., native earned NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete honors prior to the 2020 season. Chelsea will graduate with a degree in health and wellness from the College.

#7 – ASHLEY BARNETT • Infield • Orange, Calif.
With 115 appearances and 90 starts for the Golden Griffins in the infield, Barnett recorded 131 career defensive assists. The Orange, Calif., native recorded 56 hits over her career, including eight doubles. Barnett was named to the NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete List prior to the 2020 season. She will graduate with a degree in health and wellness from Canisius.

#10 – GIANNA DEGALTINI • Infield • Yorktown Heights, N.Y.
As a four-year letterwinner, Degaltini played in 119 career games and made 104 starts. Degaltini put up double-digit numbers in hits for her first three seasons as a Griff, which was highlighted by 22 career RBI, eight doubles, two triples and a homer. The Yorktown Heights, N.Y., native was earned NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete honors to the 2020 season. She will graduate with her degree in special education from Canisius.

#15 – CASSIE HO • Catcher • Honolulu, Hawaii
Cassie Ho appeared in 101 games at Canisius and she made 68 starts. In her four years with the program, she had 41 hits with 13 doubles and three home runs. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native earned NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete accolades prior to the 2020 season. She will graduate from Canisius with a degree her health and wellness.

#20 – MORGAN ALTMAN • Outfield • Orchard Park, N.Y.
Altman played 137 games for the Griffs, where she made 108 starts. Altman had 72 hits in her time at Canisius, highlighted by her team-leading six home runs and 29 RBI in 2018. The Orchard Park, N.Y., native was named to the NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete List prior to the start of the 2020 season. She will earn her degree in criminal justice from Canisius.

#28 – SUE VI • Outfield • Livermore, Calif.
Sue Vi has made 128 appearances for Canisius, earning 65 starts in the outfield. In her time with the Griffs, Vi had 30 hits with three doubles, two triples and six runs batted in, while swiping 19 bases. She will graduate with her degree in pre-law/criminal justice from Canisius.

#33 – LAUREN CASTRO • Pitcher/Utility • Gilroy, Calif.
In her time as a Griff, Castro was a two-time All-MAAC honoree and earned all-regional honors in 2017. Castro set the school record for career homers in 2019, and she also saw plenty of time in the circle for the Blue and Gold, as she pitched 263.1 innings in 69 career appearamces. The Gilroy, Calif., native will graduate with her degree in criminal justice from Canisius.

#44 – BRITTANY SOCKWELL • INFIELD • Pearland, Texas
A four-year member of the Canisius softball program, Sockwell played in 85 games for the Golden Griffins. At the plate, Sockwell recorded 41 hits with seven doubles, a triple and nine home runs. The Pearland, Texas native was named to the NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete List prior to the 2020 season, and she will graduate with her degree in health and wellness from Canisius.
