After closing out a three-game non-conference series at San Jose State with a 6-1 loss on Thursday evening, the Canisius softball team will get right back to action on Friday with a pair of games on the first day of the Silicon Valley Classic. In all, the Golden Griffins are set to play five games in this event, which is hosted by both Santa Clara and San Jose State.

Canisius News and Notes
• The Giffs are 3-5 on the season after dropping three-straight to San Jose State. The Golden Griffins closed out their non-league series against the Spartans with a 6-1 loss on Thursday.
• Prior to dropping three games to San Jose State, Canisius was 3-2 on the year, which was the team's best five-game start to a season since 2017.
• The Griffs' 3-2 loss to San Jose State in nine innings on Tuesday night was the team's first extra-inning game of the year. Dating back to last season, the Blue and Gold is 2-3 in extra-inning games.
• Canisius senior Lauren Castro extended her hitting streak to 15-straight games, dating back to the end of last season. This current 15-game hit streak is the longest of her career.
• Castro is one of three Griffs to boast a batting average better than .400 this season. She is hitting .476 on the year so far with five doubles and five RBI.
• Fellow senior Ashley Barnett drove in Canisius' lone run on Thursday against San Jose State. She starts the weekend with a team-high eight RBI, which is also tops in the MAAC.
• Junior Kara Paradowski leads the team with five stolen bases through her first seven games of the 2020 campaign. Her 69 career stolen bases ranks second-best all-time in program history.
• The Silicon Valley Classic will marks Canisius' first in-season tournament in the state of California since 2016. In that season, Canisius played the first five games of the year in the Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif.
• Canisius' roster features five players from California - Barnett, Castro, senior Sue Vi, junior Lindsi Dennis and redshirt-sophomore Shealyn Ollison.

• The Griffs will return to action March 6-8 when the team travels to take part in the Mason Invitational, hosted by George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.
