Women's Soccer Defeats Marist to Close 2019 Season

The first career goal for freshman Julia Schurr in the 27th minute propelled the Canisius women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Marist in the Golden Griffins' season finale Wednesday evening at the Demske Sports Complex. Canisius ends the season with a 7-8-2 overall record and a 2-6-2 mark in MAAC play, while the Red Foxes fell to 8-9-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference games.

Schurr's game-winning tally came at the at 26:16 mark of the first half, as she took a pass from senior Madeline Beaulieu and fired a shot  over Marist goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner's head from the top of the box. The Griffs ended up out-shooting the Red Foxes 12-7 for the game, with six of those shots being on frame.

Marist recorded four shots on goal in the contest, but the visiting team was left scoreless thanks to the shutout effort of Canisius senior goalkeeper Alana Rossi. Rossi made four stops, including three in the game's opening 45 minutes, en route to her seventh shutout of the season and the 24th shutout in her career.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"This is the first class I have truly recruited and that really means something. Because of these seniors, I think we are an overall better team. In the social aspect, the academic aspect and just the entire culture. It has been greatly influenced by them and I am grateful for it."
