Rowing Completes Fall Season at Head of the Fish

Highlighted by a sixth-place finish from the novice eight, the Canisius rowing team wrapped the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule Saturday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Golden Griffins sent out three boats at the Head of the Fish, racing both varsity eight crews in the morning before the novice eight closed out the afternoon.

The Griffs opened the day with the top varsity eight crew taking 10th in their event at a time of 11:59.96, beating out MAAC rival Iona who placed 15th. Fellow conference foe Marist was the race's runner-up behind MIT's leading time of 11:09.48, while Manhattan crossed with the seventh-best time.

Shortly after the first varsity eight was done, the second varsity eight was able to clock in at 12:54.99. That time was good for seventh in the 2V8 race, finishing ahead of Colgate but behind league counterparts Marist and Manhattan, as the Red Foxes and Jaspers placed third and fifth, respectively. Tufts took the top spot with a time of 11:48.92.

In Griffs' final event of the autumn, the Blue and Gold's novice eight fared much better against their MAAC rivals, as the eight-woman crew finished with the seventh-best time at 13:56.57. Marist took first in the novice race with a 12:11.38 posting, while Manhattan came in 11th and the Gaels of Iona placed 16th.

Head Coach Kerri Brace's Postrace Comments
"This season has been all about growing, learning and embracing the culture of this program. As a staff, we've been really proud to put out three eights of women who are raising expectations and competing day in, and day out. It was really great for the team to race against such strong competition today and it will certainly help fuel our training through the end of this fall season and into the winter."
