Women's Soccer Battles Iona to 1-1 Draw

Canisius junior Madeline Beaulieu scored in the 30th minute to pace Canisius in a 1-1 draw with Iona Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, N.Y.

With the tie, the Golden Griffins moved to 4-4-2 on the year and 1-2-1 in MAAC play. The Gaels improved to 2-9-1 and 0-3-1 with the result.

Beaulieu put the Blue and Gold on the scoreboard first at the 29:39 mark of the contest, beating Iona keeper Emma Havrilla with a shot into the upper right-hand corner of the net from the middle of the box. Her team-leading fifth marker of the season came off an assist from junior Shauna Lee.

Faith Preziosi brought the Gaels level in the 53rd minute when she received a pass from Amber Crispin and chipped the ball over Canisius junior goalkeeper Alana Rossi's head and into the right corner of the net to make it a 1-1 contest.

That marker in the 53rd minute for the visiting team sent the game into overtime, where neither team scored during the two extra sessions.

Rossi was credited with seven saves for Canisius, while Havrilla finished with six for Iona.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments

The effort was there, so I am very pleased. We are going to focus on the good things today and come back and begin preparations for Monmouth tomorrow."
